GOSSIP: Jon and Kate Lived Apart for Two Years, Divorce Papers Show

In divorce papers filed Monday, Kate Gosselin says she and her husband Jon have been living “separate and apart” for at least two years.

She also says also in the papers, filed in Montgomery County Court in Pennsylvania, that their 10-year marriage is “irretrievably broken,” according to the filing obtained by The Associated Press.

Kate states they have been unable to come to terms on how to divide their assets. (The estimated $50,000-$75,000 they earn an episode and their $1.1 million home in Reading, Pa., are likely shared.)

Up until a few months ago, the Gosselins had portrayed themselves as happy, even renewing their wedding vows in Hawaii last year.

But in April, Us Weekly broke the story that Jon had been having an affair with 23-year-old school teacher Deanna Hummel. This year, Jon even spent Kate’s 34th birthday, on March 28, on a steamy, booze-filled trip to Park City, Utah, with Hummel. (Despite photos, video and on-the-record interviews, he still denies cheating on his wife.)

On Monday’s episode, Jon and Kate – parents to 5-year-old sextuplets and 8-year-old twins – finally admitted that they were splitting.

“I’m excited and hurt at the same time,” Jon said, adding, “I have a new chapter in my life — I’m only 32 years old.”

Neither made any mention of counseling — past, present or future.

“While I know it will be hard for them,” said Kate of the effect of the separation on their children, “it will be the best and most peaceful for them.”

On Tuesday, the network announced it has halted production of their TLC show until August to give the family “some time off to regroup.”
