The other week I had a chance to listen to Sean Garrett’s new solo debut disc, Turbo 919. For those of you who don’t know, “The Pen” he has earned the nickname from Jay-Z by song writing some of your favorite artists’ lyrics such as Britney Spears, Usher, Beyonce, Omarion, Joe, Ciara, Chris Brown, Fergie, Nelly, Gwen Stefani, Kelis, Enrique Igelesias, Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Rowland, the Pussycat Dolls and Mary J. Blige.
His new record was scheduled to drop the same week as Usher’s Here I Stand, but now he has an official release date scheduled for Tuesday, June 24, 2008. His new single titled Girlfriend Ringtone, features Lil’ Wayne and a music video is on the way. I selected 2 other records that I believe could be potential hit singles, “Turbo 919″ and “Pretty Girl.” The album’s title track is a certified club banger as well as the Dark Child assisted “Pretty Girl”, which shows Garrett profess his love for a hot female.
If this LP is handled properly with the right marketing, promoting and press, Turbo 919 could be one of this year’s most talked about releases. The work by Sean Garrett is nothing short of spectacular, he has some stellar guest spots (Akon, Ludacris, Pharrell, Lil’ Wayne) that compliment his sound. He almost gave up his career as a music artist but now with the debut of his first solo record, Sean ‘The Pen’ Garrett is out to prove that he is more than just a super song writer, but a major R&B superstar on the rise.
